After living in Japan, seeing autumn foliage in background, and plum blossoms in foreground is a confusing mix of seasons. In California, there’s a wet and a dry season, with little temperature difference from month to month. It’s odd to see both plants from 2 season regions like the Mediterranean, South Africa, and Australia, and also from 4 season regions.
You don’t need a tree to enjoy fall foliage

Fall is best in Yoyogi Park. A harp and some groovy dudes echo fall foliage.

Look up! A week of sunny days and fall colors in the sky
今週は晴れた日が多くて、紅葉がすばらしいです。ファーマーズマーケットに行く途中で、代々木公園を通過しました。駅に歩くときも、一番きれいな景色は上にあります。
This past week has been sunny and gorgeous with fall leaves. I’ve biked through Yoyogi Park a few times for the farmers markets. Even walking to the station, the best views are above.

去年の写真でベランダの紅葉を見られます。前の年の紫色のサルビアと新しいピンク色のガーベラもあります。
From last year, I like these images of the balcony garden in late fall, still crowded and with leaves turning color, the previous year’s purple salvia re-bloom, and new pink gerber daisies as highlights.

もう一つ、植物の室内撮影。去年作った変わった盆栽は紅葉で色づいています。今、深紅の枝が三つ残っています。部屋のなか以外に置く時は、台所の窓の近くに置きます。

I made this strange bonsai last summer with a small bi-colored grass, tall leafy tree, and gravel. It’s fun to watch the leaves turn deep red and fall. When it’s not inside, this plant is close to the kitchen window.

Abandoned housing project is nature island of fruit and foliage
神宮前の路地を歩いているときに、廃墟の団地を発見しました。おそらくここに高級マンションが建てられます。この風景が破壊されるまでは、自然の島のようです。柿や紅葉や野生生物がいます。
Walking in the back streets in Jingumae, I came across this fantastic abandoned housing project. Soon the lot will no doubt be scraped and redeveloped into luxury residences with minimal landscaping. Until then, it’s an island of nature, full of persimmons, fall foliage, and wildlife.
